Holy Spirit Catholic Church is a community of acceptance and hospitality. We strive to help people encounter Christ and grow in faith through dynamic worship, faith formation, and outreach. Empowered by the Holy Spirit, challenged by Sacred Scripture, and nourished by the Eucharist, our mission is to be a light in the world and within the Catholic Church.

Pepe, the second bishop of what was then the Diocese of Las Vegas, asked Fr. Bill Kenny to consider starting a new parish. The parish would be adjacent to the new campus of Bishop Gorman High School.
Classrooms at BGHS were used for meetings of future parishioners. Bishop Pepe asked Fr. Bill to choose the parish name with a suggestion that there be some connection to Catholic education. Fr. Bill recalled the recitation of the prayer, "Come Holy Spirit" at the beginning of most of his classes in his seminary education and offered the name of "Holy Spirit".
The first masses were held in the BGHS cafeteria on December 1, 2007 - the First Sunday of Advent. About 300 families joined the parish and began the process of establishing a parish community. In January 2008, Las Vegas was one of the hardest hit areas of the "Great Recession." It became clear this would not be a good or successful time to launch any major fundraising programs for a church building. Although this was very disappointing, Fr. Bill has stated that it was a "blessing in disguise" as it gave the parish the opportunity to build up a strong community.
By spring of 2008, Our Lady of Lourdes Alumni Chapel at BGHS was completed and the parishioners of Holy Spirit began using it for weekend liturgies. However, with the chapel only able to host 275 people, it was necessary in a few months to move back to Tiberti Commons. With the expansion of the northeast section of the BGHS campus in 2012, the Tiberti Commons was also enlarged; thus the worshipping community moved into this larger space and remained there until the completion of the church building in June of 2018.
An architectural firm had been chosen earlier to design both the church and parish center: JVC Architects, a local Las Vegas firm led by native Las Vegan Jim Van Compernolle. Ground breaking took place on Saturday, June 3, 2017, and construction began immediately. Over a period of 12 months, the building took shape and the dedication of the long-awaited church would be on Friday, June 22, 2018. The community was ready to move into "God's House, Our Home."
