First Communion completes the three Sacraments of Initiation (the others are Baptism and Confirmation). Holy Communion, is when one receives the Body and Blood of Christ in the Eucharist. For children who are already baptized as Catholics, they may begin preparations to receive Holy Eucharist if they are at least in the second grade.

Children who are at least in the first grade and registered in the regular Faith Formation Program are eligible to start a two-year program to prepare for First Communion. First Communion will take place at the end of the second year, as early as second grade.
