SPONSOR Information
Requirements to be a Sponsor:
All Sponsors complete the form at the bottom of this page. Each Candidate will need to select a Sponsor for Confirmation. It is highly suggested that Sponsors are chosen by December 8th of the Evangelization Year (Year 1).
Sponsors must be a practicing Catholic and must model Christian values in their daily life.
Attends Sunday Mass regularly.
Must be a person suitable for this role, selected by the teen, and having intention of fulfilling this role.
A sponsor must be of the age of 16 or older and fully initiated in the Catholic Faith (through Baptism, Eucharist, and Confirmation).
Sponsors must be practicing Catholics in good standing with the Church.
A parent cannot be the sponsor.
Only one (1) sponsor can be chosen.It is a suggestion that the sponsor is one of the Godparents at the time of Baptism. This is not mandatory, just a suggestion.
The Role of a Sponsor:Sponsors should attend all Rites - Rite of Acceptance (Year 1), Rite of Covenant (Year 2), and Rite of Confirmation. Check dates of the yearly calendars for these Rites.If a Sponsor lives out of town and is unable to attend any of the above, a parent can ‘stand in’ for the sponsor for the Rites and the session.Participates in a Sponsor/Candidate ‘Outing’ of choice (candidate to complete the paperwork)Sponsors should meet with his or her candidate as often as possible for support.Sponsors should share his or her faith story with their candidate.Sponsors should pray for their candidate.Sponsors present their candidate during the Rite of Confirmation.Sponsors continue to lend support to their candidate after the Confirmation process is complete.Sponsors should always continue to encourage the candidate to move forward in his or her faith journey.
Candidate & Sponsor Outing
- Schedule a time to spend together (either during Year 1 or Year 2, or even both years) be specific and intentional. The duration could be anywhere from an hour to all day, it is up to the Sponsor and Candidate.
- Choose a place and/or an activity to participate in during the outing. We realize that some things may be limited by location. Sponsor Outing could simply be:
- Meeting for coffee
- Going to a movie (or watching one at home)
- Taking a hike
- Going out to dinner
- Going to some type of prayer service or Bible Study
- Participating in a charity walk/run
- Helping at Catholic Charities
- Anything else that may interest both the Sponsor and the Candidate.
- During this outing, the sponsor is encouraged to share some part of their faith story with the candidate, if this has not yet been done.
